why do we need agr marketing
. prior to independence, all farmers in india were subsistence farmers
. they sold very small proportion of their produce to pay back old debts etc.
. moreover they were forced to sell this at cheap prices
. and they did not have bargaining power
. also they did not have the awareness about prevailing prices or abt the existing org mkt
what is agr mkting
it is a process of assembling, storage, processing, transportation, packaging, grading and dist of agr produce across the country
what are the measures initiated by the govt to improve agr mkting sys
. regulation of mkt . provision of phy infr . cooperative mkting . minimum support price . grading and quality control . dissemination of info
explain regulation of mkts as a govt initiative to dev mkt sys
. it is the first step to a transparent mkting sys
. benefits not just the farmers but also the consumers
. targets the org mkts to protect the farmers from exploitation of brokers
. mkt committees ensure that farmers get reasonable price for prdts
. but 27,000 rural periodic mkts still to be dev

. farmers got together to form mkting societies to sell their produce collectively and get the benefits of collective bargaining
. but cooperative mkting has recieved a set back in recent years due to lack of app link btwn mkting and processing cooperatives as well as lack of finances

. helps encourage farmers to sell their produce
. govt buys excess ss and maintains buffer stock of these produce and uses them durng emergency
. fci purchases food grans like wheat and rice at the procurement prices inorder to maintain the rational prices of farmers to give them enough incentives

. aims at promoting standardisation and grading of products to provide them uniformity and make them competitive
. helps farmers fetch a reasonable price
. helps in int trade as goods are valued basis of their grading and standardsation

. refers to spread of mkt related info to farmers thru electronic media
. helps farmers in taking decisions as to what to produce, how much, where to produce, etc
