Q

What’s the difference between hard time and on condition maintenance?

A

Hard-time - item must be removed from service before its scheduled maintenance for inspection or repair.

On condition - an inspection-functional check that determines an items performance and may result in removal if it fails in service

Q

What is an accumulator?

A

Its is filled with non-flammable gas nitrogen to:
-Store hydraulic fluid under pressure.
-Provide a limited supply of pressurized fluid in an emergency
-Dampen pressure fluctuations in the system
-Allow for thermal expansion
-Allow for small internal leaks

Q

What are hydraulic pumps and what are the different pumps?

A

It is to provide a flow of fluid to produce the pressure of the system.

Spur and rotary pumps (light aircraft)
Piston pumps in (larger aircraft)
Electrical pumps (emergency backup)
Hand pumps (Maintenance purposes)

Q

What are the threats of hydraulic systems

A

System overheat: exceeds its maximum allowable operating temperature and must be re-energized

Low system pressure: loss of fluid, blockage or failure of a hydraulic pumps

Hydraulic fuel contamination: Can be chemical or particulate by improper servicing of system or component failure
