What is the agentic state?
When you act for someone else as an agent and don’t feel responsible for your actions
What did Milgram’s Acency theory state?
When we feel we are acting out the wishes of another person, we feel less responsible for our actions
How is the agentic state seen in Milgram’s study?
Some participants were concerned for the welfare of the learner and asked who would take responsibility, when the experimenter took responsibility they would often continue
What is the agentic shift?
People can start off in an autonomous way of feeling responsible for own actions and then move to a state where they are obedient and do as someone else wishes
What needs to be present in order for someone to shift into the agentic state?
The presence of legitimate authority, this is someone who is perceived to be in a paprika of social control within a situation
