- by 18 was writing short stories
- 1912, met Archie Christie. married 1914.

- during WW1 she turned to writing detective stories
- debute novel=”the mysterious affair at styles”
- partly started writing from a bet with her sister, as she was told she couldn’t write a good detective story and partly to relieve the work she was doing
- found her characters on a tram in torquay
- gave birth 1919
- Poirot was based on a Belgium refugee in countryside during WW1

- returned from grand tour
- her mother died and she was often alone
- hard period for her
- Archie fell in love with someone else
- went missing and had a car abandoned
- checked into hotel under the name of Theresa Neale
- she didn’t recognize Archie when he came to get her, possibly concussed but suffering from amnesia
- no recollection of who she was
