How is the music played?
A
Through call and response as the master drummer controls the structure. Short improvisations are developed around set patterns.

When would African music be played?
A
African music and dance would be played for work, religious ceremonies, birth, marriage and funerals. The sounds of the drum are used in communication as well.

What rhythms are usually used in African music?
A
Polyrhythms (two or more simple rhythms played at the same time) and cross rhythms (two rhythms that don’t follow the same pulse)
