Aeroplane Axes And The Wings (Chapter 8) Flashcards
Wing Taper (Definition)
This is when the chord at the tip of the wing is shorter than the chord line at the root of the wing.
Taper Ratio (Equation)
Taper Ration = tip chord/root chord
Dihedral wing design
This is when the wing has a positive upwards bend in it’s natural shape. This also means that the wing tip(s) are higher than that of the wing roots. E.g. B787
Anhedral Wing Design
This is when the wings shape naturally bends downwards. Therefore the wing tips are lower than that of the wing roots. E.g. Bae146
Sweep Angle
The Sweep angle is the angle at which an A/C’s wings are swept rearwards
Rigging Angle
This is when the wing root is angled slightly positively so that there is a greater angle of incidence
