Aeronautical stations and ATC services Flashcards
What’s the difference between ATC and ATS?
ATC: Air Traffic Control (Oostende tower, Charleroi approach)
ATS: Air Traffic Service (separation, traffic avoidance, traffic information)
Give the difference between AFIS and ATIS
AFIS: AD flight information service(uncontrolled AD)
ATIS: Automatic Terminal Information Service
What is ATIS?
Automatic Terminal Information Service: a continuous and repetitive pre-recorded broadcast, listened by pilots before contacting the local control unit.
An Air/Ground communication service for a non-controlled airfield can be identified by which call sign?
The suffix “Radio” (example: Namur Radio)
From which control unit should a departing VFR aircraft on a controlled airport request taxi instructions?
GND (on their initial call)
What ATC facility should the pilot contact to receive a departure clearance on EBCI?
Charleroi GROUND or TOWER
Give 6 different ground stations, together with an example
Brussels Information, Charleroi Tower, Oostende Approach, Antwerp Ground, Brussels Delivery, Namur Radio, Brussels Departure, Charleroi Homer, Belga Radar, Brussels Control
When a departing aircraft switches from TWR to APP?
On a point agreed by the two air traffic controllers (e.g: before leaving the CTR)
A continuous two-way radio communication for VFR flights in the Belgium FIR with ATC clearance is required in which airspace classes?
C and D
Which service ATC will provide to VFR aircraft in a class C airspace?
Traffic information + traffic avoidance advice on request
Which service ATC will provide to VFR aircraft in a class G airspace?
Flight information
Which initial action should a pilot take prior to entering a TMA?
Contact APP control on the appropriate frequency and ask for landing or crossing instructions
What could a pilot normally expect from Flight Information Service in the Brussels FIR?
- regional QNH
- information on other potentially conflicting traffic in your vicinity
- actual weather information en route and of the destination aerodrome
- activation and change of your filed flight plan
- military activity en-route
- radar vectoring to avoid conflicting traffic
What’s the frequency of BRUSSELS INFORMATION?
126.900
Which frequencies can you call on the airport Antwerpen / Deurne?
GND, TWR and the company frequencies
Be aware: not APP because EBAW has no TMA
You have to call Antwerp Tower and you will do this by calling ANTWERP or TOWER. Is that correct?
Yes, only when satisfactory communication has been established and there will be no confusion, the name of the location or the call sign suffix may be omitted
When a part-time air traffic control tower is closed, you should ….???
Communicate your intentions on the tower frequency of that airport
What will you do when in a controlled formation flight you want to exchange operational information with the other pilots?
Use the air-to-air com channel (123.45)
Be aware: 1) only with the authorization of ATC and 2) this is not a designated chat-frequency
