Aerobic respiration Flashcards
What are chemical reactions inside cells controlled by
Enzymes
During aerobic respiration, there are chemical reactions occur that do what two things?
Use glucose and oxygen
Release energy
Where do most aerobic respiration reactions take place
Mitochondria
Energy released during respiration is used by the organism. Name 4 ways the energy may be used
To build larger molecules from smaller ones
In animals, to enable muscles to contract
In mammals and birds, to maintain a steady body temperature in cold surroundings
Plants, to build up sugars, nitrates and other nutrients into amino acid which are then built up to make protein
What 2 changes take place in exercise
Heart rate increases
The rate and depth of breathing increases
Why does the heart rate and breathing increase in exercise
Allow blood to flow to muscles so increases the supply of sugar and oxygen
Increase the rate of removal of carbon in dioxide
Why do my lea store glucose as glycogen
So it can be converted back to glucose when exercising
