Aerobic gram- negative cocci Flashcards
1
Q
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
A
G- diplococci, outer surface w. multi virulence factors/ags
diagnosis by nucleic acid amplification
resistant to most Abios, now use ceftriaxone
D: gonorrhea- venereal disease, disseminated infections- spread to skin or joints, ophthalmia neonatorum-ocular infection acquired at birth
2
Q
Neisseria meningitidis
A
G- diplococci, antiphago group-specific capsular polysacch, endotoxin (LPS) produces inflammation
Vaccine: capsular polysachh (CPS), CPS protein conjugate, recombinant protein
D: meningitis- young adults, meningococcemia- disseminated infection with petechia and purpura, repeated attacks in patients with def. in terminal complement proteins
