- Director and actors find very dramatic because audience is close to the stage as there is extended first row
- Audience feels engaged-actors enter and exit through audience
- No easily achieved ‘forth wall’ separating audience from acting area

- can’t use backdrops
- Stage furniture has to be chosen carefully so it doesn’t affect audience members’ view
- actors have to be careful so no section of audience misses important pieces of action/facial expression for too long
