A
Day to day, the police have a range of jobs with many aims in mind, including:
- Protecting the public/society
- Deter crime and reduce the crime level rate within society
- Uphold the law safely and firmly
- Provide external support of social control ti encourage conformity to social rules.

Provide 4 points relating to the working practices of the police
A
- Divided into 43 constabularies across England and Wales with 123, 171 police officers in the UK.
- The police work directly with offenders, working with varying levels criminals from minor to major crimes, as they are responsible for enforcing the law.
- There are certain roles across the police which are shared across constabularies, for example a geographical profiler.
- There are various divisions for dealing with different crimes, including SOCOs, detectives, forensic specialists, armed response teams and profilers.

- Ensure that the law and legal security for the individual is upheld.
- Make sure that the law is applied and interpreted correctly.
- Give out sentences that are just/fair.
- Provide clarification on the law- whether that be through jury guidance or setting a new precedent.

Provide 4 points relating to the working practices of the judiciary
A
- Operate in 4 courts- Crown Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Justice and the European Court of Justice.
- There are 77 Crown Courts across the UK, and 600 circuit judges currently working in the UK.
- Crown Courts, of which are all over the country, hold trials of indictable and triable either-way offences, such as murder and GBH.
- Judges have to take a oath of allegiance and the judicial oath.
