Advanced CT Flashcards
What is dual source CT?
2 x-ray tubes at 90 dég from each other with corresponding detectors
What are the benefits of dual sourced CT?
- Faster scan times
- Better temporal resolution
- No significant dose increases
What are dual energy scanners?
Either 1 or 2 tubes that operate at different kV simultaneously
What are advantages of dual energy CT?
- Highlight different attenuation features
- Able to isolate tissues with subtraction
What is PET/CT?
Combination of both PET and CT to provide an anatomical and functional evaluation
Use: cancer staging, Mets, march fracture
What is CT/fluoro?
Real time imaging mixed with high detail CT that take three slices at a time:
1. Slice above ROI
2. ROI
3. Slice below ROI
Application: biopsy and drainage
What is virtual imaging?
Endoluminal imaging that can demonstrate these structures in 3D
Anatomy: GI system, bronchial, cardiac
What is vascular imaging?
Contrast enhanced studies of vascularity (aka angiography)
Able to become a VRT and isolate the vessels
What is cardiac CT?
Aka cardiac scoring
Screening for atherosclerosis to determine location and extent + predicts cardiovascular events
Does cardiac CT use contrast for calcium scoring?
NOPE
What is flat detector CT?
Aka cone beam CT and used for MPR and 3D images mid procedures
Used in IR, OR, or fluoro
What is CT simulation?
Planning for radiotherapy treatment that visualizes treatment targets and outline the tumour
What is the benefit of CT simulation?
Ensure maximum dose to the tumour and minimum dose to surrounding health tissues
What is EID?
Energy Integrating Detector
Photons enters detector and turns into visible light, therefore INDIRECT CONVERSION TO ELECTRIC SIGNAL
What is PCD?
Photon Counting Detector
Photons enters the detector and is converted to a charge cloud, therefore DIRECT CONVERSION TO ELECTRIC SIGNAL
