Adult Stroke Flashcards
Indications
Abnormality in RACE Stroke Scale, altered mental status, seizure, speech deficit, facial droop, paresthesia (tingling or prickling sensation), and hemiparesis (paralysis on one side of the body) in the absence of trauma, weakness, ataxia, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, general malaise, abnormal pupillary function, or other symptoms of suspected cerebral ischemia or hemorrhage.
Treatment
Admin O2 to maintain in O2 concentration of 94%
Place Pt. in high-fowler’s position if possible.
If BGL is less than 60mg/dl, admin 25g D50, if no IV 1mg Glucagon
Notes
Detrmin onest of symptoms
Contact med control for all strokes
if RACE scale is greater or equal to 5, and last known well time contact
Make a stroke alert if last known well time was less than 4.5 hours
RACE Scale
Facial Palsy: (0 absent, 1 mild, 2 Sever)
Arm Motor Function: (0 Normal to mild, 1 limb held up less than 10 seconds, 2 unable to hold up limb
Leg Motor Function: (0 Limb upheld more than 5 seconds, 1 limb upheld less than 5 seconds, 2 unable to uphold leg
Head and Gaze: (0 Absent, 2 Present)
Aphasia (R sided) (unable to follow commands): (0 can preform both tasks, 1 can preform only 1 task, 2 cant preaform any tasks.)
Agnosia (L Sided) (unable to recognize familiar objects): (0 can recognize both , 1 can re only 1 task, 2 cant preaform any tasks.)
