Adult Prothesis Flashcards
How does the basic process of myoelectric prosthesis control work ?
Sensing - processing - actuation - feedback
What is the most common reason for limb amputation?
Diabetes, but is usually lower limb
How many new referrals to the prosthetics clinic each year?
3000 and 2000 babies born with upper limb deficiencies in the Uk per year
What are the rankings of importance that a survey of patients produced?
Function, psychology, aesthetics, clinical service, collaboration, media
What is pattern recognition?
Proposed in 1973 and typically requires n>2 myoelectric channels. Has proved too challenging to become a reality (nurses didn’t have the time or knowledge to set up/ analyse machine learning data)
What are the abstract decoding working principles?
Abstract decoding is purely motor learning
Presents continuous feedback of muscle activity in a multidimensional space allows motor system to generate inverse map (gets better with practice)
Once inverse map of task is learned with practice, within task generalisation to control spaces with more targets is possible
