Adult Clincial Populations Flashcards
What is the posture of someone wit ankylosis spondylitis?
Lowering of COG
Forward shift COM
Will a pt with Anky spondylitis sway more or less in steady state postural control?
More sway bc their spine is rigid and not able to compensate as well. They also rely on vision for Balance
Why are pts with Anky spond more likely to have vestibular probs?
Bc ankky spond also causes inflammation of the inner ear
What balance strategy will a pt with vestibular disorder will use for reactive balance?
Only ankle strategy bc hip strategy is too much movement and will exacerbate vestibular dizziness. They only do ankle out of fear avoidance
What is the most common cause of dementia?
Alzheimer’s disease
What sense do people with Alzheimer’s disease rely on for balance?
Vision!
Do people wit Alzheimer’s prefer observational or guided learning better?
observational bc it forces them to think about what to do where as they can just do nothing during guided n let PT do all work
T or F..
Ppl with Alzheimer’s like errorless learning?
True!
Bc they don’t have all cognitive thinkin intact so they must rely on what they practiced like mm memory. But if that muscle memory was done wit errors then they will repaeat the errors.
What’s the acronym for stroke?
BE FAST
balance
Eyes
Face
arms
Speed
Time
What does massed patterns of movement mean? (Stroke)
You cannot isolate a mm alone, must activate all the mm in the spinal nerve with it.
How will a pt with cerebella patho deal with dual task?
This will be difficult because it will require more of their limited attention. They only have conscious movemtn pathways intat
When does an intention tremor occur?
When you are moving and not at rest
How is reactive postural control affected in pt w/ cerebellar patho?
They will over correct and then be forced to correct for the over correction
