Adrenergic System Flashcards
Adrenergic receptors blockers.
Nonselective
alpha 1& 2 blockers
Reversible - Phentolamine & tolazoline.
Irreversible - Phenoxybenzamine
Selective alpha 1 blockers
Prazosin, terazosin , doxazosin , tamsulosin, silodosin, alfuzosin.
Selective alpha 2 blockers : Yohimbine
Nonselective beta blockers-
Propranolol , timolol , nadolol, pindolol , sotalol , labetalol , carvedilol
Beta 1 blockers - atenolol , bisprolol , esmolol and metoprolol, nebivilol & betaxolol.
Therapeutic uses of beta blockers
1) Hypertension
2) Angina prophylaxis and MI
3) Cardiac arrhythmias (atrial)
4) Congestive cardiac failure (carvedilol, metoprolol)
5) Pheochromocytoma (propranolol)
6) Glaucoma (timolol , cartelol)
7) Prophylaxis of migrane (propranolol and metoprolol)
8) Hyperthyroidism
9) Essential tremors - oral propranolol
10) Dissecting arotic aneurysm
11) Acute anxiety states
Therapeutic uses of alpha blockers
1) Pheochromocytoma - Phenoxybenzamine and propranolol
2) Hypertensive emergency - i.v Phentolamine
3) Essential hypertension - alpha 1
4) Benign prostate hyperplasia - prazosin terazosin doxazosin
5) Tissue necrosis - Phentolamine due to alpha 1 agonist
6) Male sexual dysfunction - local injection of Phentolamine with papavarine.
7) Congestive cardiac failure and peripheral vascular disease.
