Vascular smooth muscle contraction
What is physiological effect of a2 adrenoceptor?
Inhibition of transmitter release
What is physiological effect of B1 adrenoceptor?
Main cardiac effects
What is physiological effect of B2 adrenoceptor?
Vascular dilation/airway relaxation
Where is B1 adrenoceptor located?
Located in heart
Located between afferent + efferent renal arteries
What does nasal decongestant do?
Stimulates a1 adrenoceptor in blood vessels which are inflamed due to cold.Blood vessels are made to constrict + therefore they are not impacting/clogging on airways
Side effect= increase in blood pressure
What does asthma inhalers do?
B2 adrenoceptor are found in airways and they produce relaxation. You don’t get cardiac effect because they are no B2 adrenoceptor in cardiac muscle
What does a cardiac stimulant do?
E.g. dobutamine is B1 adrenoceptor agonist which can help a failing heart + can restart a heart in emergencies. No airway effect because they have not B1 adrenoceptor in airways smooth muscle
What are main uses of adrenoceptor blockers?
In heart => atenolol
In kidney=> atenolol
