Q

Phenoxybenzamine

A

irreversible a1 and a2 blocker
noncompetitive
dirty also blocks histamine ach and serotonin receptors
reduces bp
se is orthostatic hypotension, reflex tachycardia from bp being reduced, crosses bbb causing nausea vomiting and weakness, inhbits ejac, miosis stuffy nose (all alpha 1 blockade
reynauds
give with pheochromocytome along with beta blocker

15
Q

propranolol

A

nonselective beta bocker
treats angina pectoris, htn, migraine prophylaxis, arrhythmias, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, anxiety attacks, chf
high lipid - drowsiness
membrane stabilizing
decreases hr, co, exercise tolerance, o2 demand, av nodal conduction, mi size and reinfaction, and pacemaker activity
slow to decrease peripheral resistance
se - dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, depression, bizarre dreams, purpura, rash and fever, and increases cholesterol
contraindicated in asthma bc it blocks bronchodilation
masks hypoglycemia and can induce hypclycemia
titrate does 75% inactivated at first pass
cant withdraw suddenly get htn angina or mi
contraindicated in acute decompensated heart failure, 2nd and 3rd degree block and cardiogenic shock
DI - hypotensive, anti-arrhythmic, insulin and hyperthyroid meds

16
Q

timolol

A

nonselective beta blocker
more potent than propranolol
lowers iop in glaucoma

17
Q

pindolol

A
nonselective beta blocker
parial agonist
intrinsit sympathomimetic activity
less rebound htn and bradycardia than propranolol
like carteolol
18
Q

nadolol

A

nonselective beta blocker

19
Q

atenolol

A

b1 blocker - prototype

all b1 blockers lessen bronchospasm risk, still contraindicated in asthma, they do not prolong hypoglycemia

20
Q

acebutolol

A
b1 blocker
partial agonist isa
partial agonist
htn
dysrhythmias
21
Q

metoprolol

A

b1 blocker
htn
chf

22
Q

betaxolol

A

b1 blocker

glaucoma

23
Q

esmolol

A

short acting beta1 blocker
used during surgery for tachycardia htn and arrhythmias
electroconvulsive therapy

24
Q

labetolol

A

alpha1 and beta1 and 2 blocker

htn and pheochromocytoma

25
Q

carvedilol

A

alpha and beta blocker both nonselective
lipid soluble
antioxidant properties
chf

26
Q

bisoprolol

A

b1 blocker

chf
