Children aged 1 month and over with severe croup exhibiting signs of impending respiratory failure
Severe croup as by the Modified Taussig Croup Score or the Westley Croup Score
Exclusion criteria for nebulised administration of adrenaline 1:1,000? (3)
None in life-threatening scenario
Aged less than 1 month of age
Aged 11 years of age or over
Cautions for nebulised administration of adrenaline 1:1,000?
Upper airways compromise can be worsened by any procedure distressing the child, including the administration of medicine.
Administration method for nebulised adrenaline 1:1,000? (2)
Empty adrenaline dose into nebulisation chamber of nebuliser, dilute with saline if required to make up to 5ml.
Connect nebuliser to medical oxygen at flow rate of 6-8L/Min to administer
Dose and frequency of nebulised adrenaline 1:1,000 administration?
SINGLE dose
Over the age of 1 administer 5mg with no saline dilution
