Adrenal Flashcards
1
Q
Hypertension in cushings
A
- Glucocorticoids have high affinity for mineralocaoticoid receptors
But in cushings 11BHD 2 saturated - Glucocorticoids have a permissive action on catecholamines
- Gluco stimulate PNMT release to convert noradrenaline to adrenaline
- Increase the formation of deoxyxorticosterone
- Increase formation of angiontensinigon and direct effect on blood vessels
2
Q
Factors that cause an increase in aldosterone secretion
A
Hemorrhage ( volume depletion ) Increased plasma K Low plasma Na Construction of IVC in thorax Standing Ang ii ACTH
3
Q
Factors that increase ADH secretion
A
Volume depletion
Standing
Ang ii
Pain exercise
ALCOHOL - decrease ADH secretion
4
Q
What is the adrenal medulla
A
Sympathetic ganglion when the post ganglionic neurons have lost their axons and become secretory cells
5
Q
Excretion Of catecholamines
A
50% meta nephrine and normetanephrine
35% VMA
small amount free adrenaline and noradrenaline
