What is mission command?
Mission command is the exercise of authority and direction by the commander using mission orders to enable disciplined initiative within the commander’s intent to empower agile and adaptive leaders in the conduct of unified land operations.
Define unified land operations.
Unified land operations are the Army’s contribution to joint operations.
It is the simultaneous offensive, defensive, and stability or defense support to civil authorities tasks to seize, retain, and exploit the initiative to shape the operational environment, prevent conflict, consolidate gains, and win our nation’s wars as part of unified action.
What is are the three elements of the nature of operations?
Military operations are human endeavors.
Military operations are contests of wills characterized by continuous and mutual adaptation by all participants.
Army forces conduct operations in complex, ever-changing, and uncertain operational environments.
What does the Army exercise to account for the nature of operations?
Mission command; specifically the mission command philosophy.
What are the principles of mission command?
Teams/Trust. Build cohesive teams through mutual trust
