What are the requirements for adoption in Cameroon?

1. Residency: The parents must have lived with the child for atleast 3 consecutive months
2. Age: One parent must be at least 40 years old or 35 years and they must have been married for at least 10 years if not, then the parents must provide medical proof of infertility
3. Marriage: Both parents must be married to each other, and this marriage can not be a single-sex marriage
4. Agreement: Both parents must consent to adopting the child

What is the process for adoption in Cameroon?

-> The prospective parents apply for an adoption decree from, the high court, they must then meet the requirements for adoption.

-> Cameroon’s central adoption agency will provide the parents with a referral to the child where they must then decide if they can meet the needs of said child.

-> A social worker is then assigned to the parents to assist them throughout the process of which at the end the social worker provides a report on the parents.

-> After this report the parents can then take the case back to the high court if both the child and the parents are eligible for adoption then the court shall grant them their adoption decree and they can take the child home.
