Less than 3% of girls are said to enter the menarche after 15 years of age. Menarche is associated with the deceleration phase of the height velocity curve seen in puberty.
Breast bud development is the first sign of puberty in girls.
Very high gonadotrophin levels may indicate ovarian failure, and low levels a pituitary cause, hence neither excludes an underlying problem responsible for delayed/absent puberty.
