Practice Standards Scheme - PPS
The Rcvs practice standards schemes states that inpatient facilities must be of a suitable size, securable, sturdy, escape proof, without potentially injurious faults and easily cleanable
ideally kennels or cages should be made of non-permeable materials so as to be easily cleaned and disinfected.
Environmental Temperature
in order to aid the maintenance of body temperature the hospital environment needs to be at the right temp, the ideal range is 18-21degrees.
Methods of assisting patients to raise their body temperature

-hot water bottles
-blankets
-incubators
Methods to use lower body temp include
-cool pads
-fans
- air conditioning

-good lighting is essential to allow animals to be checked and monitored adequately

- should be similar to lighting conditions
Noise
-Noise from inpatients can be controlled by soundproofing
