A
res ipsa loquitur
Res ipsa loquitur means “the thing speaks for itself.” This doctrine applies to injuries sustained by the patient while in the operating room. A misdemeanor is an intentional crime. An extension doctrine means the surgeon went beyond the limits of the patient’s consent. Intentional tort means intentionally causing injury.
