What is long-term planning for?
plans 5-10 years; sometimes referred to as strategic planning

determines/anticipates routine/non-routine needs, changes and deterioration in equipment/facilities.

guides decision making by providing justification for choice and design
establishes priorities/resource allocation
meets desires/needs of individuals/community
prevents bad decisions/costly errors

What are organizational goals and objectives?

What are mission statements?
declare organizations purpose
What are vision statements?
create organizations current purpose and provide direction for what it wants to be/ become in future.
Why do organizations consider participant needs?
To ensure program meets needs, wants, desires and preferences of participants.
What kinds of opportunities should programs provide?
catering to different ability levels
offering variety of program types, formats, times, and locations
consideration of the social aspects of recreational programming
What methods can be used to obtain a needs assesment?
social indicators, surveys, community group approaches, and advisory boards.
What is the organizational capacity purpose?
determines how many staff needed/skill level, what current programs might meet needs, what equipment, facilities and supplies are needed, and what kind of budget is necessary.
What are program goals?
broad-based statements of intent and what program plans to accomplish in general.
What are program objectives?
measurement points of goals and how they plan to measure them.
What are implementation objectives?
Specify intentions for implementing program. Relate to inputs, activities, and outputs of program logic model.
What do outcome objectives address?
who- s involved,
behaviour- what is involved in the program and how is it displayed,
condition- how will it be done
timing- when will it occur
degree- what means will accomplishment of objectives be measured
success- what is standard of success acceptable
What does the program logic model consist of?
inputs, activities representing the planned work;
outputs, outcomes and impacts representing the intended results.
What should be considered before designing and developing programs to meet participant needs?
staff and their skill level
what current programs might meet needs
what equipment, facilities and supplies does organization have access to.
