Adjuvants, Formulations, Mixing orders Flashcards
Formulation
suitable form for handling, packaging, and use
may contain solvents, surfactants, and diluents
F
flowable (L)
highly viscous - wettable powder in suspension
EC
emulsifiable concentrate
solvent or surfactants to enable non-water soluble material to be uniformly dispersed in water
DF
dry flowable
herbicide impregnated on granules that are designed to break up and mix uniformly in water
WDG or WG
water dispersible granule
similar to dry flowables
usually larger granules
G
granule
dry material such as corn cobs, clay or gypsum impregnated or coated with herbicide
P
pellets
large granules
SL
soluble liquid (L) true solutions may contain surfactants and solvents
WP
wettable powder
minimum water solubility
usually a herbicide and dry carrier that is suspended in tank (need to have a really good agitation system)
MC
micro encapsulated (L) each herbicide molecule encapsulated in a solvent or oil that prevents rapid volitalization and break down
Invert emulsions
viscous emulsions in which oil is the external and water is the internal portion of the droplets
surfactants
adjuvants to enhance the handling or performance of herbicides
many are high quality soaps
COC
crop oil concentrates
vegetable or petroleum oils that increase absorption plus surfactants
carrier
diluent for the herbicide formulation to increase uniformity and ease of application (water usually, sometimes alcohol)
SP
soluble powders (L)
