What is an adjustment disorder?
unusual reactions to stressful events or situations
-ind. may not be aware of the stressor

Sxs of adjustment disorder
marked distress that is in excess of what would be expected
sig. impairment in social or work functioning
other: hopelessness, freq. crying, depressed mood, agitation, palpitations
Tx for adjustment disorder
psychotherapy
meds usually NOT used but +/- Benzodiazepines, SSRI or SNRI, mild anxolytic (hydroxyzine)
How does adjustment disorder differ from PTSD?
PTSD involves a more severe stressor
Pts with adjustment disorder may present with..
poor sleep, aches/pains, indigestion
Functional consequences of adjustment disorder?
- usually decreased work/school performance
- temporary social relationship changes
-can complicate the course of an illness
