ADJECTIVES Flashcards
HOW DO YOU DECLINE ADJECTIVES?
take the same ending as the noun before them
EG: LONG PERIOD = periodus (F) longa
* Latin nouns have three grammatical genders (masculine, feminine, neuter); the same
applies to adjectives.
* The adjective corresponds with the gender, case, and number of the associated noun.
* Unlike English, the adjective comes after the noun in Latin.
* An adjective of the 1st and 2nd declensions can combine with a noun belonging to any
of the 5 Latin declensions, not only the 1st and 2nd.
* If an adjective of the 1st and 2nd declensions is attributed to a noun of the same
declension type, it is highly likely that the endings of the noun and adjective will be
identical.
