Atomoxetine (Strattera) is an alternative (non stimulant)
Short acting stimulants: Methylphenidate
Ritalin and Methylin are the short acting formulations
Time to onset of action ranges from 20 to 60 minutes.
Duration of action is three to five hours and the half-life is two to three hours.
Long acting stimulants: Methylphenidate
:Onset of action 20-60min, duration of action 8 hrs
Single pulse: Metadate ER, Methylin ER and Ritalin SR
12 hours: Osmotic release: Concerta Oral suspension: Quillivan XR Transdermal: Daytrana: Effects last 3 hours post removal of the patch Onest

Onset of action 20 min, duration of action 8-10 hrs

Acts on dopamine and norepinephrine to block reuptake
High potential for addiction and abuse
Schedule II drug
Amphetamine-dextroamphetamine (Adderall)
high potential for abuse May lead to drug dependence Extremely popular May be slightly more effective than Ritalin Also schedule II Anxiety Weight loss Psychiatric issues like psychosis Heart problems in at risk people (sudden death)
Detroamphetamine (Dexedrine)
Previously used for otc diet pill Marketed very well Among most effective treatment for ADHD Schedule II Sudden death in people that have heart probs or defects
