ADF’s contribution to the international effort to combat the Daesh (also known as ISIL) terrorist threat in Iraq and Syria. Approx. 600 personnel involved.

What is Operation Highroad?

ADF’s train, advise and assist mission in Afghanistan, Operation HIGHROAD, began on 1 January 2015. Approx. 300 personnel involved.

It marked the end of Operation SLIPPER, Australia’s commitment to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan, which had run for 13 years.

ADF’s effort to protect Australia’s borders and offshore maritime interests.

The Area of Operations covers approximately 10% of the world’s surface.

At any one time, up to 620 ADF personnel are working at sea, in the air and on land.

What is Operation Gateway?

ADF provides maritime surveillance patrols in the North Indian Ocean and South China Sea, in an effort to counter people smuggling in the region.

This is a periodic operation.
