What is the EEC?
The European Economic Community created in March 1957
What did the EEC do?
It was created to harmonise measures of trade and prices
How did the EEC help the FRG?
It gave FRG the chance to exert some influence in foreign affairs.
What was the ECSC?
The European Coal and Steel Community
Why was the ECSC set up?
To ensure there were no restrictions on imports and exports for members of the community. It introduced common policies for prices, subsidies etc…
Was the ECSC successful?
Yes, between 1952-7 col and steel increased by 44%
How did the Defensive Pact and West European Union help FRG?
They were both expanded to include the FRG and allowed the FRG to have an army.
What treaty was signed in 1963?
The French-German Treaty
When were the FRG allowed to join NATO?
1955
When were the European powers more open accepting the FRG?
After the outbreak of the Chinese Revolution (1949) and the Korean War (1950). It heightened their fear of Communism so the FRG were more accepted
How did the FRG become a sovereign state?
When the Occupational Law ended in 1955
