What was Stalin Notes?

A

The GDR offered a reunification settlement, but it was rejected by the FRG, especially Adenauer.

What was the Hallstein Doctrine?

A

The doctrine stated that Adenauer would refuse to have any relations with countries that acknowledged the GDR. Only Yugoslavia and Cuba broke relations, suggesting the the FRG had managed to successfully establish themselves.

What was the Magnet Theory?

A

The idea that, if the FRG was made politically, economically and socially attractive that East Germany would want to integrate with West Germany. Adenauer also promised to look after refugees in West Germany, but only if they made their own way there.
