Additive Manufacturing Flashcards

1
Q

Binder Jetting

A

Used inkjet style printing with powdered material (sand, ceramic, metal, plaster, ect) Instead of ink, it jets a binder that glues the powder together in the shape of the object. You can even use normal ink on the surface of the part to add color!

Q

Powder Bed Fusion

A

Similar to binder jetting - the difference is that rather than using a binder, a beam of energy is used to melt the material in the shape of the part. The energy beam is moved across the surface of the powder bed layer by layer.

Incudes SLS, DMLS and EBM.

Q

HP MFJ

A

Multi Jet Fusion by HP - uses dark ink and radiant heating to bind the material - usually polycarbonate or nylon.

Q

Stereolithography/SLA

A

a form of 3D printing which makes solid parts from a liquid resin set by using ultraviolet light.

Q

Material Jetting

A

This method combines jetting technology with SLA technology. A photosensitive resin is jetted out of the print head, very quickly followed by a UV light. Can use multiple materials at once allowing easily removable supports. Often used for intricate models.

Q

Material Extrusion/FDM

A

Fused deposition modelling, also known as FFF (fused filament fabrication). If you’ve ever used a hot glue gun, FDM is very similar to this. Used most often in auto, aerospace and medical.
