Specificity
Training should be specific to an individuals sport, activity or fitness goals
Progressive Overload
Training needs to be demanding enough to cause the body to ad[apt, improving performance
Reversibility
If training is stopped or intensity is not demanding enough training effects are reversed.
Rest and Recovery
The body needs to recover so training gains can then take place. This is essential to any training programme.
Adaptation
How the body reacts to training loads by increasing its demands to cope with these loads
Variation
Training is varied so boredom is reduced and it maintains enjoyment. This is so every session isn’t the same and performers don’t lose motivation
