Additional definitions Flashcards
Self states
AKA “internal family systems theory” which states taht one’s identity is often comprised by various internal parts (if healthy these are integrated, if wounded these become fragmented/split off)
Projective identification
Feeling what the patient is feeling
Holding environment
An illusory dynamic in which the therapist brackets their own subjectivity in order to allow for the client to enter a regressive dependence similar to parent-child relationship. This will allow them to work out complex relational patterns (i.e. splitting)
Corrective attachment
The therapeutic relationship acts as a way of creating secure relationships that “corrects” the client’s previous relational experiences and helps them to engage in healthy relationships in the future (using the therapeutic relationship as a template)
