Buprenorphine

A

agonist
Sublingual - with or without naloxone (which is not absorbed sublingually) (suboxone, Zubzolve)

  • Severe liver impairment - liver will not break down Naloxone)

Can induce withdrawals due to partial agonist effect

Heroin withdrawal 6-12 hours, methadone longer

Higher affinity than all opioids except fentanyl

Buprenorphine is not detected by drug screen

Implant - 6mo
Injections - 1month / 1 week (sublocade, CAM2038)

MAT clinic = Medically assisted treatment
