Adaptive immunity Flashcards
What are the 2 classes of lymphocytes in adaptive immunity?
B cells.
T cells.
What am I?
Produce antibodies that attack pathogens
B cells.
What am I?
Attack pathogens more directly.
T cells.
What are the 5 stages of adaptive immunity?
- Recognition of antigen
- Activation of lymphocytes
- Effector phase (immune attack)
- Decline of antigen causes lymphocyte death
(homeostatic balance) - Memory cells remain for later response if needed
Where are T cells created?
In the thymus.
Where are B cells created?
Red bone marrow.
What does NK cells release to kill abnormal cells?
Perforins.
Granzymes.
What must a normal cell possess for an NK cell to release killer-inhibiting receptor?
MHC class 1 module.
What are the three functions of T cells?
- Cytotoxic T cells
- Helper T cells
- Suppressor T cells
Which cell assist and regulate the function of B cells, T cells and leukocytes?
Helper cell
Which cell suppresses lymphocyte function, regulate immunity, and promotes self tolerance.
Suppressor cell
Which cell releases lymphotoxin to kill cells
Cytotoxic cell
What are the 5 types of antibodies?
IgA
IgD
IgE
IgG
IgM
Which antibody am I?
Can cross placenta to provide immunity to new-born/foetus and is most common?
IgG
Which antibody am I?
Works with basophils and most cells?
IgE
Which antibody am I?
Found on surface of B cells that bind antigens to extracellular cells?
IgD
Which antibody am I?
Found in semen, mucus, saliva and breast milk?
IgA
Which antibody am I?
First antibody to be produced when pathogen is encountered?
IgM
