Acute responses Flashcards
Define diffusion
The movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide to an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Occurs on the alveloli of the lungs and the muscle capillaries.
Define Ventilation
The amount of air breathed in or out in a minute. Tidal volume x respiratory rate.
Where do acute responses occur?
Respiratory, cardiovascular and muscular system
Define cardiac output
The amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle per minute. Stoke volume x heart rate
Define Blood pressure
The amount if pressure exerted on the arteries when the ventricles contract (systolic) and relax (diastolic)
Systolic
Contract
Diastolic
Relax
Define Venous return
The amount of blood thar is returned back to the heart via the veins
Define blood volume
The amount if volume of blood
Redistribution of blood flow
The redirection if blood away from the areas it is not needed eg. Kidneys, spleen and to where it is eg. working muscles
Motor unit recruitment
The motor neurons and the muscle fibres it stimulated
Energy substrates
The chemicals that are required to resynthesis ATP ie PC, glycogen, trigylcerides
Decrease due to the energy demands of the working muscles.
Anarobic
Build up of metabolic bi-products that cause fatigue
Lactate
A byproduct of anaerobic glycolysis
Body temperature
A change in internal temperature of the body
