Acute Liver Disease Flashcards
Describe the three types of acute liver disease
Lobular Dissarray and apoptosis, coaggulative necrosis and Acute hepatitis with Mallory Bodies
Describe Lobular disarray and Apoptosis
Typically caused by HepA and HepE infections. Complete dissarray of lobules, swelling of the cells, macrophage infiltration, lipofuschin present, lymphocyte infiltraton and apoptotic cells (councilman bodies)
Describe Coaggulative Necrosis
Is due to paracetamol overdose and will decrease the level of glutathione in the liver and as a result will predispose to coaggulative necrosis. Zone 3 is most sensitive yet 2 can also be affected
Describe Acute Hepatitis with Mallory Bodies
Alcohol abuse, neutrophils present, mallory bodies (c shaped) and ballooned hepatocytes, and fibrosis around the central vein and the hepatocytes
