Acute Heart Issues/heart failure Flashcards
What are the three acute heart conditions to be aware of?
1) anginas (stable/unstable/variant)
2) myocardial infarction
3) heart failure (L vs R sided)
Describe L sided heart failure.
difficulty pumping blood to systemic circulation, so it backs up into lungs
- pulmonary issues: pulmonary edema, orthopnea/dyspnea, paraoxysmal dyspnea, dry cough, wheezing
- issues d/t decreased CO: hypotension, tachy, poor ex. tolerance, weak, fatigue, enlarged heart, S3 sound (maybe S4 too)
T/F: R sided heart failure can result in L sided heart failure over time.
false, L sided can cause R sided
Describe R sided heart failure.
difficulty pumping blood into pulmonary circulation; backs up into periphery
- get hepatomegaly, acites, weight gain, dependent edema
- see JVD, cyanosis, RUQ pain, and S3 sounds
Peripheral edema can be a sign of what sided heart failure?
R sided
Pulmonary rales/wheezing can be a sign of what kind of heart failure?
L sided
Pulmonary congestion can result from what kind of heart failure?
both; R sided can occur from L sided if bad enough
