Location: Located on the lateral side of the foot, 0.5 cun inferior to the inferior border of the lateral malleolus, in a depression posterior to the peroneal tendons.

Needling: Oblique insertion directed inferiorly, 0.3-0.5 cun

Describe the trajectory for Yang Qiao Mai.

A

It originates inside the heel on the lateral side, goes to the external mallelous and BL62. Ascends on the lateral side of the leg and connects with BL61 and BL59. Ascends on the lateral side of the upper thigh and hip and connects with GB29 (same as Yang Wei). It then travels to SI10 (crossover of Yang Wei as well). Rises outside the shoulder and connects with LI16 (LI Channel) and LI15 (TE channel). Ascends to ST9 (LI and ST channel) and then to ST4 (Ren) and ST3 (ST channel) and to ST1 (Ren). It then goes to the inner corner of the eye at BL1 (SI, BL, ST, YinQ). From there it continues over the skull, behind the ear and enters GB20 where it ends.

A
  • Originates as a branch of the Kidney Meridian, veering off at KI6 (this class)
  • It then moves further up to KI8 (Xi cleft pt)
  • It travels up the medial aspect of the leg to the inguinal region where it enters into the external genitalia
  • It ascends the abdomen and chest and connects with ST12
  • It passes in front of ST9 (level with laryngeal prominence) and up the cheek to enter BL1 where it meets with the BL meridian, Du Mai and Yang Qiao Mai

  • Travels up the thigh to GB29 (crossing of Yang Qiao Mai as well) ascends to the hypochondrium and shoulder at LI14, ascending to TE13 and TE15
  • Flows to GB21 (crossing pt of GB, TE and ST)
  • Flows to the back of the shoulder to SI10 (crossing of Yang Qiao Mai as well)
  • Ascends behind the ear to GB20 flowing through GB points from 20 to GB14.
  • Proceeds to forehead, enters the eye and ascends to GB13 where it ends
