Actuators Flashcards
devices which are used to produce motion or action, such as linear motion or angular motion.
actuators
what are the 3 types of actuators?
electromechanical actuators
electrical actuators
hydraulic and pneumatic actuation system
devices that convert electric energy into mechanical force in such a way as to execute work, mostly moving an object or a device.
electromechanical actuators
it is consists of a coil and a movable iron core called the armature. When the coil is energized with current, the core moves to increase the flux linkage by closing the air gap between the cores.
solenoid
it is a solenoid used to make or break mechanical contact between electrical leads.
electromechanical relay
electrically operated switches that come in many shapes, sizes and power ratings suitable for all types of applications.
electromechanical relay
it is a machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical torque.
electric motor
what are the 6 basic parts of electric motor?
stator
field coil
rotor
armature
commutator
carbon brush
it s a type of electric motor that are powered from direct current source.
DC motor
With this type of DC motor, magnetic field is
produced by the current passing at the commutator through the carbon brushes
brushed dc motor
what are the 3 ways brushed dc motor can be connected?
series
shunt
compound (short shunt or long shunt)
this motor is typically consist of a rotor made of permanent magnets and a stator made of wound coils.
brushless dc motor
it is a brushless DC electric motor that divides a full rotation into a number of equal steps.
stepper motor
it is a rotary actuator that allows for precise control of angular position, velocity and
acceleration.
servo motor
a type of electric motor that are powered from alternating current source.
AC motor
what are the 2 categories of AC motor?
synchronous
induction motor
in this motor, the stator and rotor both are excited separately. The excitation is the process of inducing the magnetic field on
the parts of the motor with the help of an
electric current. this motor is not a self-starting motor.
synchronous motor
this motor works on the principle of induction where electro-magnetic field is induced into the rotor when rotating magnetic field of stator are cut by copper or aluminum bars embedded in the rotor. it is also the most common type that is used in residential, commercial, or industrial setting.
induction motor
this motor is a rotating electric machine that is designed to operate on a three-phase supply. it can be squirrel-cage type or wound rotor type.
three-phase induction motor
in this type of three-phase induction motor, copper or aluminum bars are embedded
in the rotor and are connected by end discs or rings on both ends.
squirrel-cage induction motor
in this type of three-phase induction motor, Three sets of wires usually made of copper are placed in the slots of the rotor, one end of each set are connected together internally while the other end of the three sets are brought out through the use of three sets of slip rings.
wound rotor induction motor
motor is a rotating electric machine that is designed to operate on single-phase supply.
single-phase induction motor
in this type if single-phase IM, The auxiliary winding has a higher resistance-to-reactance ratio than the main winding, with the result that the two currents will be out of phase, as
indicated in the phasor diagram, which is representative of conditions at starting
split-phase motor
this motor is also a split-phase motor, but the time-phase displacement between the two currents is obtained by means of a capacitor in series with the auxiliary winding.
capacitor start induction motor
This motor is also called as a capacitor run motor in which a low capacitor is connected in series with the starting winding and is not removed from the circuit even in running condition.
permanent capacitor induction motor
These motors are also called as two-value capacitor motors. It combines the advantages of capacitor start type and permanent capacitor type induction motors.
capacitor start capacitor run motor
this motor is a motor, in which the auxiliary winding is composed of a copper ring or bar surrounding a portion of each pole to produce a weakly rotating magnetic field.
shaded-pole motor
a system that is designed to move large loads by controlling a high-pressure fluid in distribution lines and pistons with mechanical or electromechanical valves.
hydraulic actuation system
similar to check valves in that the sealing element is a poppet but they are actuated by mechanical or electrical means
poppet valves
it is the simplest type of directional control valve used in hydraulic systems. It stops the flow of fluid in one direction and allow free flow in the opposite direction.
check valve
this system is similar to hydraulic systems, but they use compressed air as the working fluid rather than hydraulic liquid.
pneumatic actuation system
this motor is a special type of motor that runs on both AC and DC power supplies
universal motor
compressed air is applied to only one side of this cylinder.
single-acting cylinder
this converts energy into motion. the motion can be rotary or linear, depending on its type.
pneumatic actuators
this cylinder is actuated in both directions with compressed air.
double-acting cylinder
these are the devices that regulate the flow of a fluid by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageway.
valves
