Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
What’s active transport?
A
The movement of particles through a cell membrane from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration using energy from respiration.
2
Q
What do root hair cells absorb from the soil?
A
Water and mineral ions, such as nitrates.
3
Q
Describe the concentrations of a root hair cell
A
Low concentration outside
High concentration inside
4
Q
What happens with an ion and the carrier proteins?
A
The ion enters the carrier protein
The carrier protein closes it
It comes out and into the cell membrane
5
Q
Name 2 example of passive transport
A
Diffusion
Osmosis
(because energy isn’t needed for these processes)
