How to annotate a text?
There are two main strategies: highlighting and notetaking.
This helps you to stay engaged, process information, streamline future readings of the text.
What are benefits of highlighting?
It helps you process the importance and relevance of information as you decide what to highlight. It also streamlines later read-throughs by drawing attention to the most relevant portions.
What are benefits of notetaking?
Notetaking while reading helps you process information as you identify things that are interesting or confusing. It also helps you annotate a text more purposefully.
Who are critical readers?
Critical readers conduct their own assessment and ask questions. Those kind of readers are also often experts in what you write.
How do you deal with critical readers?
To deal with critical readers, you have to become a better academic writer. You do this by becoming an active reader. Ask yourself why you are reading a text. Like that, you may suspet what questions the critical readers are going to ask.
