Rules in punctuation of direct speech?
- the words actually spoken should be in (“ ”)
quotes and always begin with a capital letter.
Period, comma, exclamation or question mark are placed inside
the quotation marks.
If the quoted part comes first, use a comma before the
introductory part.
Rules in verb tense?
Use the tense in the original direct speech clause when stating
facts, general rules, habits, and actions in progress.
The quoted text becomes more past in indirect speech
Future tense will is simoly replaced with would
Past perfect progressive has no change
Simple past - past perfect
Past progressive - past perfect progressive
