Actions Flashcards
Upper Trap
Elevation of scapula and shoulder, capital extension, cervical extension, rotation of head to opposite side. Rotation of scapula up
Middle trap
Scapular adduction
Lower Trap
Scapular adduction, depression and upward rotation
Latissimus Dorsi
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates, elevation of trunk towards arm
Levator scapulae
Elevates and adducts scapula, rotates scapula downward, lateral bending of cervical spine to same side
Rhomboid major and minor
Scapular adduction, downward rotation, and scapular elevation
Pec major Whole muscle
Adducts and medially rotates humerus, elevation of the sternum in forced inspiration
Pec Major clavicular head
horizontal shoulder adduction, flexion and medial rotation
Pec Major sternocostal head
horizontal shoulder adduction and shoulder extension
Pec Minor
Scapular protraction, elevation of ribs in forced inspiration with scapula fixed
Subclavius
Depresses and moves clavicle forward
Serratus anterior
Scapular abduction, holds scapula against thoracic wall, works with trap to rotate scapula upward to allow full shoulder abduction
Deltoid
Anterior: flexes, medially rotates, horizontal adduction
Middle: abducts arm
Posterior: extends, laterally rotates, horizontal abduction
Supraspinatus
Maintains head in glenoid fossa and abudcts shoulder
Infraspinatus
Laterally rotates arm, maintains head in glenoid fossa
Teres minor
Laterally rotates arm, maintains head in glenoid fossa
Teres major
Adducts and medially rotates arm, shoulder extension from flexed position
Subscapularis
Medially rotates arm, maintains head in glenoid fossa
Biceps brachii
supinates forearm when it is supine, flexes forearm, assists with shoulder flexion
Brachialis
Flexes forearm in all position
