Action Theory Flashcards
What are Meed’s main two viewpoints? (SvI, ROO)
Symbols Vs Instinct - A symbol is something that stands for or represents something, whereas, A meaning is what we interpret of the symbol, which provokes our action.
Taking the role of the other - He states that we interpret a meaning by taking the role of the other, for example, children taking the role of their parents.
What does Weber look at? (C+M,4)
The level of cause - The objective structural factors that shape peoples behaviour.
The level of meaning - Understanding the meanings individuals attach to their actions.
The four types - Instrumental rational action, Value-rational action, Traditional action, Affectual action (these are meanings people may give to their actions).
What is Gidden’s main theory? (ST)
The Structuration Theory - He believes that there is duality or structure, this means the Structure and Action need each other and neither can exist without one another.
