Action of Lower Limb Muscles Flashcards
Anterior Compartment of Thigh
Common Action: All extend knee joint
Rectus Femoris
Helps flex the thigh
Sartorius
Flexes, aBducts, and laterally rotates the thigh. Also assists in flexing leg
Pectineus
ADducts, flexes and medially rotates the thigh
Iliopsoas
Major flexor of thigh
Adductor Longus
Adducts and weakly flexes thigh
Adductor Brevis
Adducts thigh
Adductor Magnus (adductor part)
Adducts and weakly flexes thigh
Adductor Magnus (hamstring part)
Adducts and weakly EXTENDS thigh.
Gracilis
Adducts thigh, flexes leg
Obturator Externus
Laterally rotates thigh
Gluteus Maximus Muscle
Extends flexed thigh, assist in lateral rotation and abducts thigh, stabilized hip joint
Gluteus Medius
Abducts and medially rotates thigh at hips, steadies pelvis on leg when opposite leg is raised, abducts femur, prevents pelvic tilt during opposite swing phase
Piriformis Muscle
Laterally rotates and extends thigh, abducts flexed thigh at hip,
Obturator interus
Laterally rotates extended thigh, abducts flexed thigh at hip
