Role of women
Bernarda repeats that women have specific roles ‘needle and thread for a women, a whip and a mule for men’. Luto is the role of women as it is punishment and labour.

Willingly accepts sexual attention from men. Although Bernarda may try to control of, the women in this society respond to and appreciate male love and lust. Women are not simply impure.
