Act 4 Flashcards
Witch
Knows Macbeth is coming. Ironic by what the witch calls him as she is a witch
Something wicked this way comes
First Apparition - a helmeted head
It warns him of Macduff
Beware Macduff; beware the Thane of Fife
Second Apparition - a bloody child
Lures Macbeth into false sense of security because the only thing that can kill him was not born from a woman
for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth
Third Apparition - a crowned child with a tree in its hand
Tells Macbeth that he will not be harmed until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane
Macbeth shall never vanquished be, until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him
Macbeth
Ironic as he curses all that trust the Witches and yet he has been most influenced by them
Damned all those that trust them!
Macbeth
He will kill Macduff and his family as they appear to be his only threat
The castle of Macduff I will surprise, seize upon Fife, give to the edge of the sword his wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line
Macbeth
No more talk, he must only use actions while his mind is on the topic
No boasting like a fool; this deed I’ll do before this purpose cool
Ross

He is noble, wise, judicious, and best knows the fits of the season
Lady Macduff

This tyrant, whose sole name blisters our tongues, was once thought honest
Malcolm
Scotland is in need of saving, every single day the situation is declining and disimproving
I think our country sinks beneath the yoke, it weeps, it bleeds, and each new day a gash is added to her wounds
Malcolm
Describing Macbeth again - no longer noble or valiant
black Macbeth
Macduff
It is not possible for there to be a ruler worse than Macbeth - he is simply the worst of the worst
Not in the legions of horrid Hell can come a devil more damned in evils to top Macbeth
Macduff
